St. Elizabeth School is currently seeking applicants for the following positions:

Classroom Assistant (Teaching Assistant)

Immediate, Full Time, Permanent  Position (11-Month)

Function:​ Classroom Assistant staff support teachers with the adaptation of instruction to meet the academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs of SES students by assisting with classroom preparation, organization, instruction, and behavior management throughout the school day. In accordance with the classroom assignment, the Classroom Assistant will provide 1:1 supervision and instruction to students in the classroom and during off-campus community-based instruction.

Responsibilities:
•    May serve as a Teacher Assistant, Program Assistant or 1:1 assistant. 
•    Assist with: classroom preparation, organization and instruction, data collection and record keeping
•    Escort and monitor students during the change of class
•    Behavior management and student support throughout the school day
•    Attend and participate in general staff meetings, weekly team meetings, conferences and in-services.
•    Work with students requiring individual and/or small group attention
•    Work as a team player to create a positive learning atmosphere.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  One of the following:        

  1. High School Diploma or GED and a passing score on the state exam for highly qualified staff (ParaPro Assessment) in accordance with the “No Child Left Behind” Legislation standards for highly qualified staff. (Salary Band: TE1)

  2. Associated degree (Salary Band: TE2)

  3. Bachelor’s degree or higher (Salary Band TE3)

 

Experience:     Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities highly preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Multitasking – Ability to monitor students while transitioning from one task to another.

  • Resourcefulness – Ability to adapt your daily plan accordingly to what is happening in the classroom.

  • Team Oriented – Ability to support coworkers while helping students achieve their learning and IEP goals. 

  • Patience – Ability to maintain a calm and composed demeanor under pressure and maintain a positive attitude in difficult situations.

Additional Requirements:

IEP Specialist

Permanent, Full-Time

Function: To assist the IEP Coordinator with all administrative aspects of the special education IEP process and ensure that the school remains in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and guidelines.


Responsibilities:
• Provide administrative assistance to IEP Coordinator.
• Organize, reconcile, edit, and compile student progress summaries and educational plans for annual IEP reviews and Special IEP meetings.
• Design new reports, spreadsheets, forms, letters and processes as necessary to meet IEP office needs, Local School System (LSS) preferences, and revised requirements from the Maryland State Department of Education.
• Update IEP calendar and send notifications to all appropriate parties.
• Coordinate with the IEP Coordinator to lead instructional and related services staff in the completion of IEP documents, progress summaries, and related reports as well as provide guidance regarding compliance and IEP timelines.
• Conduct in-service training for staff during new employee orientation to ensure that IEP processes are followed with fidelity.
• Partner with School Testing Coordinator to conduct data preparation, material inventory, and other MSA and HAS-related administrative procedures per MSDE requirements.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two year’s relevant experience working in a special education setting.

Special Education Teacher 
Science, Social Studies, Work-Based Learning

Permanent, Full-Time, 11-Month Position

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as case manager and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the classroom and provision of instruction, including development and implementation of goals and objectives, assessment and curriculum design. 

  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals. 

  • Develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with intellectual, physical and/or behavioral challenges. 

  • Prepare and implement lesson plans aligned with 6th through 9th grade science, social studies and work-based learning standards. 

  • Provide direction and supervision of paraprofessional educators

Requirements

•    Education:      Master’s degree preferred.  Minimum B.A./B.S. degree in teaching or related subject from an accredited institution.   
•    Certification:   Must have current MSDE certification in the Area of Generic Special Education grades 6-adult, or be eligible for certification in the appropriate area/grade bands. 
•    Experience:  Three years’ experience teaching science, social studies, work-based learning, or related subject matter; in special education setting preferred. Case management – ability to develop, evaluate and consult on data-driven goals/objectives.  

Critical-thinking skills:  Ability to accurately assess students’ progress and adjust lessons to their needs.  
Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff.  
Innovative:  Must be creative, organized, and highly motivated. with the ability to work independently as well as work with a team.  
Patience and empathy

Special Education English Language Arts/Reading Specialist

Permanent, Full-Time Position

Responsibilities:

• Provide direction and supervision of paraprofessional educators

Requirements

subject from an accredited institution.

Maintenance Assistant

Full-Time Position

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist in maintenance of school building and grounds according to an established maintenance schedule; make repairs and/or modifications to facility and equipment as directed; assist in maintenance of landscaping and landscaping equipment; assist with snow removal; operate commercial floor care machinery; assist with the set up and breakdown of rooms before and after special events and activities; drive own vehicle/school vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies and equipment and transport student/staff to and from off campus job locations and functions; serve as job trainer for students assigned through work program; Fill in for Housekeeping staff when needed; perform other duties as required.

Requirements: High School Diploma; experience in making minor building, plumbing, electrical, and equipment repairs; ability to read and interpret equipment operations manuals;’ valid driver’s license; good interpersonal skills; ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders; The maintenance assistant is expected to: lift (utilizing a belt) 50 pounds; operate commercial floor cleaning equipment; climb a 16’ ladder; operate push lawn mowers on steep grades; service roof top equipment, push/pull, bend, stand for prolonged periods of time.  Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
