About Us

Pre-St. Elizabeth School

Five Franciscan Sisters arrived in Baltimore from London, England, at the request of Cardinal Gibbons, to open an orphanage for African-American children. The orphanage was located at Maryland Avenue and 23rd Street.

The orphanage was closed due to the State of Maryland’s move to place children in foster homes rather than institutions.
