Sports/Physical Activities/Special Olympics for students throughout the year:
Students are encouraged to participate in athletic activities as much as possible. All practices and games take place after school unless otherwise noted. Some sports have required events on the weekends. Students must be able to commit to full participation in order to take part in these activities (with the exception of intramurals). Parents/Guardians are responsible for student transportation from practices and games (pick up at SES unless otherwise noted). Many of these activities are limited in the number of students who can participate (some are more limited than others).
- Intramurals -- September through May after school on Mondays- Permission forms go home 1st wk of school. Gives students opportunities to experience a variety of sports, games, and activities, and to practice individual skills including skills for Special Olympic competitions -- soccer, floor hockey, basketball, and softball).
- Soccer -- Team or Individual skills - September through October - Permission forms 1st wk of school
- Basketball - Varsity and JV (possibly have tryouts) December through March - Permission forms go home in November
- Floor Hockey Individual Skills and/or Team - November to Early February (Special Olympics Tournament) Permission forms go home in Early November
- Downhill Skiing - December through February Every Wednesday - Several off campus trips with late evening pick up at SES, and possibly weekend practices. Transportation home from practices a must. Space is very limited. Permission Forms go home in November
- Cross-Country Skiing -- December through February Every Wednesday - Several off campus trips with late evening pick up at SES, and possibly weekend practices. Transportation home from practices a must. Space is very limited. Permission Forms go home in November
- Snowshoeing -- December through February Every Wednesday - Several off campus trips with late evening pick up at SES, and possibly weekend practices. Transportation home from practices a must. Space is very limited. Permission Forms go home in November
- Bocce Ball - March through the end of school. Permission forms go home in March
- Ten-Pin Bowling - Practice during school, December to February. Special Olympics Tournament on a Weekend in early Feb.
- Ice Skating - November to February, Practice and Baltimore City tournament during school day. Permission forms go home in November.
- Softball - Team - Practices and games after school April through the end of school. Some weekend games required, as well as Special Olympics Summer Games in Early June (weekend event). Permission forms go home in March
- Track and Field - Practice during school (in PE), Baltimore City games in April or May, and State Summer Games Weekend in early June.
- Sailing - Practices on Thursday evenings in June and July (must be picked up from the practice site at the Inner Harbor) - Races at the Special Olympics MD Regatta last weekend of July @ St. Mary's College. Limited space available for participants. Must be able to swim. Permission forms go home in June.
- Kayaking - Practices after school on Wednesdays in July at Gunpowder River. Pick up at Gunpowder or SES. Races at the Special Olympics MD Regatta last weekend of July @ St. Mary's College. Must be able to swim. Limited space available for participants.
- Pep Squad - Practice after school once a week during basketball season, and cheer at SES home games as scheduled. Season lasts from December to March. Permission forms go home in November.
