The academic program, which offers both traditional and innovative coursework, is highly individualized and emphasizes the functional application of basic skills. The curriculum is designed to help students who have had a history of failure and discouragement to experience success. Students are encouraged to take risks in a supportive and highly structured environment.
Academic courses integrate enriching content with functional skills that are necessary for successful independent living. The curriculum at St. Elizabeth School is developed using a variety of resources that provides students with exposure to the general education curriculum of local school systems while insuring that each student’s individual needs are met. Students are instructed in small groups as well as individually, in the classroom, on campus, and in the community.
Students who meet program requirements earn a High School Diploma or a Certificate of Completion from their local school system upon graduation. In order to earn the high school diploma, students must complete requirements that are consistent with standards approved for nonpublic secondary schools in the State of Maryland.
St. Elizabeth School is committed to assisting each student in reaching his or her potential and providing all necessary supports to reach that goal. Supports may include assistive technology, computer-based instruction, one-to-one assistance based on IEP directives, and other highly individualized and creative approaches to meet student needs. |
